Midshipman’s Needle is a bespoke and made-to-measure tailoring shop, specialising in clothing of bygone ages, which aims to provide a one-on-one, personalised tailoring service for any customer who feels out of place with the times. Just behind a small and unassuming storefront with a magpie threading a needle emblazoned on the door is our experienced tailor, Lt. Thomas Jopson, ready to help. After a thorough conversation as to the cut and style of the garments you’re after, we will see you through to your most comfortable fit every step of the way.

As the old saying goes, “Midshipmen dress with a needle and undress with a pocket-knife." It’s with that level of bespoke attention that our tailor aims to provide familiar comforts to his clientele.

The shop is run independently by Thomas Jopson on a one-to-one basis.

✁ MENSWEAR

Menwear is our specialty. We can provide full bespoke suits, waistcoats, shirts, trousers and undergarments. Just come in and speak to Mr. Jopson about the style and cut that would make you feel most at home in your clothes. Peruse his drafts and drawings. If you come from a time much earlier or much later than his own and he's never made what you're after, that's okay. Mr. Jopson carry out an extended consultation and draft from your description. Anything he's never made before is offered at a 50% discount for being his very first, and he welcomes the learning experience. There are some pre-made samples available to be fitted and purchased, but we pride ourselves in our personalized service. We are here to see to your specific needs, the way a tailor ought to do.

✁ WOMENSWEAR

While Mr. Jopson specializes in a men's tailor by trade, he happens to be the son of a seamstress and knows his way around skirts. He is happy to provide full dresses, skirts, shirts, stays and corsets to any Lady happy to be measured by his respectful hand. If you come from a time much earlier or much later than his own and he's never made what you're after, that's okay. Mr. Jopson carry out an extended consultation and draft from your description. Anything he's never made before is offered at a 50% discount for being his very first, and he welcomes the learning experience. ✁ ACCESSORIES & ALTERATIONS

Perhaps you don't want to go in for a full outfit, but want some of the comforts of home. Mr. Jopson can add buttons, remove zippers, add pockets, add lining to existing clothes, embroider, and tailor what you've purchased to actually fit your shape. Alterations can sometimes be the key to feeling at home again in your new clothes.

We can also provide all manner of accessories of durable quality. Braces(Suspenders) with button holes, embroidered handkerchiefs, socks, garters, all manner of ties and neckerchiefs, gloves and more. Any fabric accessory before Hats and Shoes we can provide (Experienced Haberdashers and Shoemakers may enquire for employment).

✁ A LITTLE EXTRA

Rumor has it that, for the discerning and familiar customer, Mr. Jopson has some items behind the counter that he's trialling. Not a leatherworker by trade, there is always room for expansion, and our tailor is trying his hand at select fabric and leather intimate wares. Enquire for more details.
